Attribute extraction

Attribute extraction is pulling structured fields out of unstructured supplier files such as PDF linesheets, spreadsheets, and folders of images.

The file problem#

Wholesale runs on files designed to be looked at. A supplier sends a PDF linesheet, a spreadsheet with merged cells and the header three rows down, or images named by style code. None of it is structured, and all of it has to become structured before anything can be ordered.

The traditional answer is a person and a week. That is tolerable once and intolerable every season across every supplier, which is why distributors and agencies carrying many brands feel this far more sharply than a single brand does.

What extraction gets right, and wrong#

Reading a style code, a price, and a size run out of a messy spreadsheet is the kind of task models now handle well, including on layouts they have not seen before. That removes most of the typing from onboarding a new supplier.

What they do not know is your conventions: which of two price columns is wholesale, whether a code is a style or a variant, how this particular supplier writes a size run. Extraction should therefore end in a review step rather than an import, and the review is where the time saved is kept rather than lost.
